What is Urban Agriculture
Urban agriculture is the practice of growing and cultivating food in densely populated areas for personal consumption by the grower, or for distribution to the inhabitants located in close proximity to where the food was grown. Urban agriculture is an ancient practice, and has been present throughout history in urban environments around the world. Out of necessity, Americans grew over 9 million tons of food in urban gardens during World War II. Today, Americans are re-discovering the common-sense practice of urban agriculture through a combination of environmental concerns and a desire to eat fresh, pesticide-free produce.
